Abstract

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) stands as one of the most impactful initiatives for rural development in India. By ensuring guaranteed employment of 100days, fair wages, and work opportunities through public projects, the program has significantly contributed to improving rural livelihoods. This study examines the performance of MGNREGA in Punjab, with particular attention to its influence on women participants. Findings reveal a notable rise in female involvement in the scheme, highlighting its role in enhancing their socio-economic status. The research demonstrates that MGNREGA has positively affected the majority of its beneficiaries by creating job opportunities, fostering financial stability, and improving their living conditions.
